This explains how to skip the “Open with online web service” prompt while trying to open unknown file types in windows Operating System.
When we try to open unknown file from windows explorer, a popup message is displayed
asking to use online web service to find the appropriate program to open the
file. This prompt could be disabled by modifying the windows registry entry which
immediately display open with dialog instead.
1) Open the registry
editor by clicking regedit in windows run command or by clicking shortcut key
Win + R key.
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
3) Check if DWORD value with the name “InternetOpenWith” exists and set its value to 0 to disable “Open with online web service” prompt. If the value “InternetOpenWith”does not exist create it and set its value
to 0.
