Faster File Copying in Windows 7

By Peter Bromberg

Windows 7 is "supposed" to improve file copying performance over Windows Vista, but most users find it unbearably slow in many situations. Here are two alternatives to speed up copy operations.

Teracopy http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php

Is a full-featured file copying application that integrates into the Windows Explorer shell, so that when you use Copy and Paste, Teracopy will take over the operation. It doesn't spend a bunch of time "figuring out" timing or "discovering files" like Windows Explorer does. It also has a number of nice features. The basic product is free.

RoboCopy GUI http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/RoboCopy-GUI.shtml  is a GUI Wrapper over the native Robocopy utility that comes with Windows 7.  It offers most of the switches that are in the command line utility and provides a nice, user-friendly GUI that allows you to quickly copy files and folders. It does not, however, integrate into the Windows Explorer Shell. This product is also free.

Either product will enable you to copy files and folders much faster!
