Normalization in databases refers to representing data in a manner with least representation so that its accessible in all the ways.

It has the following advantages:

a) All your queries would be tuned to a certain extent with the clustered indexes on the table.
b) Normal activities on tables that include Searching, Sorting , Adding, Deleting etc. becomes faster due to index.
c) Fewer null values exist, and less reduntant data exist. Thereby making the database more consistent.
d) Since large data is broken into a good number of tables, it becomes easier for Database Administrators to simplify the structures of data and granularity
e) Normalization helps achieve Referential Integrity, and helps us relate data between two tables through a similar attribute.
f) Implementing Security becomes easier
g) Storage becomes efficient
