Deployment - Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server install problem with SQL 2008

Asked By Matt Rakestraw on 12-Aug-08 02:16 PM

Hi, I get the following error when running the Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server install (during the System Health Check).

I have Windows Server 2008 Enterprise in a VMWare VM along with a pure vanilla install of SQL Server 2008 with all components installed.  I'm using only the local Administrator account for all installs (just to see if I can get it installed one time).

The Full Text Search service is running, though it's labeled differently in the SQL Services list.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A compatible version of SQL Server is not installed.

Workaround / Remedy
SQL Server installation is a prerequisite for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2008. Install a supported version of SQL Server and then install any required service packs. For more information about supported versions of SQL Server, download the most recent version of the Team Foundation Installation Guide, which is available from the Microsoft Web site.

I think there are lots of issues with VS2008 and SQL Server 2008 compatibility

Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server install problem with SQL 2008

Thanks Partha, I guess I was hoping that the gold SQL 2008, with TFS would be ok.  I'll scale back to SQL 2005 and see what happens from there.

-- Update --

I haven't done this myself, but I've heard that you CAN make TFS install with SQL 2008 if you slipstream the TFS SP1 and hack the Health Check so that it can accept the SQL server revision number.
