Windows Server - MMC cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\dnsmgmt.msc

Asked By ffidx ffidx on 21-Jan-10 01:31 AM
I've running dns server and yesterday suddenly following popup message appeared.

MMC cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\dnsmgmt.msc

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console or was created by later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.

But I didn't do any thing.
Please help

I had this issue and resolved the problem today as it was bugging the hell out of me, as all my other Administrative Tools shortcuts work.

It looks like you can get corruption in your MMC under your profile. A search for dnsmgmt on my C:\ of the Terminal Server I was using showed that I had an instance under

C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Application Data\Microsoft\MMC\dnsmgmt

I deleted the dnsmgmt entry and it started working again!!

Hope that helps.
