Windows 7 - Unable to open embedded links in Outlook 2010 Win 7

Asked By Amy H on 28-May-10 09:28 AM
Regardless if its a web link, word doc, excel doc, or network path when i try to click on a link in any email i get a message that the "operation has been canceled due to restrictions".
I have full admin rights on this machine.
I have tried to reset web settings.
Any Suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,

The reason behind the error message is that.

After you upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or to Internet Explorer 7, the following registry key is either missing or corrupted:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command

So you can fix it and you can correct the issue.

Arun Ramesh

Make sure you have a default browser; any browser will do, just make sure *something* is the default, or you will get an error. If you have no default, how does Windows know what to do with a link?

Unable to open links, I am getting a message "operation has been canceled due to restriction in effect. Please contact system administrator"  I am the administrator.

this happened to me too when I uninstalled Google Chrome because it came bundled with something else and I wasn't using it. After trying all kinds of solutions to hyperlink problem, I reinstalled Chrome but kept IE as my default browser, and the problem was solved.

Yesterday I did uninstall Goodle Chrome so I believe this is my problem.  Thanks.
