Microsoft Excel - Formula to select the highest number in a row and return column name

Asked By Massimo on 20-Jan-11 03:38 AM
Hello,
I wonder if there is a way to select in a row the highest number and return not the number found but the name of column.

ie,

HOTEL NAME   FOOD SCORE  COMFORT SCORE  CLEANLINESS SCORE     RESULT

Palace              1      5                   3          COMFORT SCORE
Ritz                2      4                 6          CLEANLINESS SCORE

etc.

What formula do I need to put in the result column to obtain the behaviour and displaying the name of the column (which is in the first row)

Thanks
Massimo

Hi Massimo

Apply this formula in cell E2 and copy down as required..

=INDEX($B$1:$D$1,MATCH(MAX(B2:D2),B2:D2,0))
