Windows Vista - IE8 endless loop - Asked By Eric on 28-Feb-11 07:41 AM

In IE8 and Vista whenever I try to 'add to favorites I get an error message 'IE has stopped working-Windows is checking for a solution to the problem',IE has stopped working- A  problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I have tried starting IE (No add-ons) also disabling all add ons but the problem persists.
Can you help?
Thank you

The issue could be with corrupted IE files or profile..
check this thread for more workarounds on this and try to reset settings as described..

I would also suggest you 'Reset IE Settings' and see if that fixes the problem.

To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
  2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
    inetcpl.cpl
If you use Windows Vista, click Start
    Start button
. Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER:
    inetcpl.cpl
The Internet Options dialog box appears.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
  5. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
  6. Start Internet Explorer again.
