Windows Vista - WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER WON'T LET ME SIGN IN!!! D':

Every time I try to sign into WLM this message appears "Please enter your Windows Live ID in this format: yourname@example.com" even though I've typed in my correct ID and password. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now but the same message appears and clicking on forgot my password doesn't do anything either, pleaseeee help I can't seem to find a solution anywhere :( thanks.

Hi,

Try this

. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that 
the time and date are set. 
2. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then 
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button. 
3. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check 
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL 
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
 
4. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following: 
regsvr32 softpub.dll 
then click OK 
5. Restart messenger and IE

r u entering a valid windows live id?
Try logging into the live id mail (left side pane you will find the link "Sign to chat") and try to sign-in inside the email account.

yes i am and i can sign into the hotmail website to check my e-mails but cannot sign into windows live messenger

Can you log in to the account on a different computer?

If you can: It's something wrong with your PC (see below)
If you can't: It's something wrong with the account

Try completely removing all Messenger related data from your computer using CookieRevised's guide, then it should work.

that error means (in human terms) that the program can't connect to the Messenger service over the Internet.

What that means is (typically) one of two things - either the Messenger service is down in your area (something wrong on their end) or something on your computer is blocking access to it (something wrong on your end).

If the problem is recent and hasn't been happening for very long (ie a day or less) then I would wait based on the assumption there's something wrong on Microsoft's end.

If the problem is persistent (ie, been going on for days now) then I would look more closely on your side.

Do you have a router or firewall installed at all or is your computer connected directly to the cable modem?

All routers include a hardware firewall and some cable modems do as well. If there is a router installed please post up the make/model and it also might be a good idea to post up the make/model of your cable modem. The idea being to take that side of your connection out of the equation and narrow the problem spot down :top:

I have Windows Firewall and I think it's my laptop with the problem, it has been going on for days now and I know my neighbour can sign into WLM fine so the Messenger Service can't be down in my area. I've clicked on Options (which is to the side of "sign me in automatically") and under Connections it says "You're not connected to the Messenger Service." and "You're connected to the internet through a network connection." And also when I trouble shoot a warning sign (yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark) appears next to "Key Ports", and there are blank squares next to IE offline setting..., Hosts File and Wireless. However there are green ticks infront of IP, Default gateway, DNS and Proxy Server. When I troubleshoot this error code appears: 80070057.
