How do you add a page number WITHOUT an accent bar? I'm using word 2007

follow these steps-

      1

Open Microsoft Word, click the "File" tab and click "Open." Navigate to the Word document to number and double-click the file name, which opens in a new Word window.
      2

Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Page Number" button on the toolbar/ribbon below the tab. Hover your cursor over the menu items to view options such as page numbers for the top of the page or bottom of the page.
      3

Click a sub-menu item, such as "Accent Bar 1" and the page number is automatically added to the page and a new "Header & Footer Tools" tab and toolbar open at the top of the page. Scroll through the document to ensure that the number is in place on every page.
      4

Highlight the word "Page" and retype over it with your own preference, such as "PP," "Pg" or just delete it entirely.
      5

Highlight the page number itself and any text, click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen and change the way the number appears using the "Font" section of the toolbar, such as the text size, text color and font. This is an ideal way to fade the number off the page, using a gray text color, so it doesn't compete with the black text of the Word document.
      6

Click the red "X" "Close Header and Footer" icon on the toolbar to get out of the page number editor and return to your document. To edit the page number at any time, just double-click it and this toolbar will re-open.

hope this will help you.

Following are the simple steps to add page numbers in a word document.

Step (1): Click the Insert tab, and click Page Number button available in header and footer section. This will display a list of options to display page number at the top, bottom, current position etc.

Step (2): When you move your mouse pointer over the available options, it displays further styles of page numbers to be displayed. For example when I take mouse pointer at Bottom of Page option it displays following list of styles.

Step (3): Finally select of the page number styles which you like most. I selected Accent Bar 1style by clicking over it. After this step you will enter in Page Footer modification mode, so you would have to click Close Header and Footer button to come out of footer edit mode.
