Hi
Since I installed Windows7 each time that I turn on the PC I get a warning that " WinPK filter is missing or failed to load " Does anybody know what a PK filter is and what this warning is for?  Regards Robert.

WinpkFilter is more than just a firewall development kit for Windows. With WinpkFilter you can make an application that inserts itself into the Windows network stream: custom firewall solution, internet connection sharing (NAT), IP shaper, VPN and many other low-level network solutions completely in user-mode using your favorite development environment: Visual C++, Delphi, Visual Basic, C++ Builder and etc.

which version of windows 7 ? 64 bit?

my guess is you have some app installed that was using this and now can't load it properly

is there any other info about the error? anything in the event logs?

Many thanks for your quick reply Pete.
My version is Windows7 Pro SP 1 32 bit, I have only had it a few weeks, and as I have been continually trying to get my programs and printer drivers etc etc, working with it, I haven't found my way about the prog yet or found the event log.
There is also  another warning of " One of the passed string parameters is empty " that I don't understand, but as it's given by my Comodo firewall, and as you mention firewalls it might be connected, when I first saw this warning I did uninstall the firewall and then reinstall it, but it didn't shift the warning.  Regards Robert.

Hi guys
My thanks for your help it's most appreciated, here is the update for your info, I have tried looking for the winpk in wireless networks and it's not there, or I could not find it anywhere, as I think 7 SP Pro must be a bit different to other versions, next I looked in msconfig and nothing like winpk is listed in the Services or Startup tabs, so I tried the download from Brothersoft, the hard part was it took 10 mins to figure out what to click on to start the donload, (you can end up witha folder full of Chrome etc if your not careful) but anyway it came and it installed, and after two reboots it looks like a SUCSESS the warning has gone so my thanks to all, but I would like to know what the winpk filter does, if anybody could explain in simple silver surfer terms, regards Robert.

WinpkFilter is a high performance packet filtering framework for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Windows 7/2008R2 that allows developers to transparently filter (view and modify) raw network packets with minimal impact on network activity without having to write low level TDI or NDIS driver code.

WinpkFilter is more than just a firewall development kit for Windows. With WinpkFilter you can make an application that inserts itself into the Windows network stream: custom firewall solution, internet connection sharing (NAT), IP shaper, VPN and many other low-level network solutions completely in user-mode using your favorite development environment: Visual C , Delphi, Visual Basic, C Builder and etc.

Using WinpkFilter requires no experience in kernel mode programming on your behalf since WinpkFilter provides you with powerful user level API. However, if you need to implement your solution (to achieve better performance) in kernel mode you can use well-documented raw IOCTL interface as well.
