SQL Server - Error installing MSDE - SAPWD switch?

Asked By John Rubin on 27-Jul-14 11:38 AM
Not a great beginning to transferring my Access database to SQL Server. When I try to install the version of MSDE I just downloaded from Microsoft, I immediately get the following error message:
A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details. Setup will now exit.
I tried the readme file and can't understand what they're saying to do. Any ideas?

Hi Rubin here is the answer for ur question htt - Asked By Prasanna K Kuttuva on 26-Apr-05 10:12 AM

Open a command prompt window.

From the command prompt, use the cd command to navigate to the folder containing the MSDE 2000 SP3a setup utility:
cd c:\MSDESP3aFolder\MSDE

where c:\MSDESP3aFolder is either the path to the folder into which you extracted the MSDE 2000 SP3a files, or the Desktop Engine SP3a folder on the SQL Server 2000 SP3a CD.

Execute one of the following commands:
To install a default instance configured to use Windows Authentication Mode, execute:
setup SAPWD="AStrongSAPwd"
where AStrongSAPwd is a strong password to be assigned to the sa login.
