How to eliminate viruses and malware on your PC

There are lots of ant-virus and anti-malware offerings in the marketplace. Microsoft Security Eseentials is a free download that will keep your PC protected.

Over the years I have used both "for pay" and free versions of various antivirus and anti-malware programs. While I have in the past been quick to criticize Microsoft for one thing or another, Microsoft Security Essentials represents cutting edge  antivirus and malware protection that is feature-complete and effective.

I suggest that after you install the product, run a FULL SCAN on your PC. You may also want to disable the legacy "Windows Defender" service as it is no longer needed.

Microsoft regularly updates the virus definitions for the product, and if you have Windows Update enabled, you will get regular updates. You can also update the definitions manually from within the product UI screens. It offers real-time protection that will spring into action in the event you end up on a website that is attempting to deliver malware or viruses.

NOTE:  The "Server Check" has been removed in the latest version of MSE which means you can install it on your server OS where there are 10 or fewer PC's.
