Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) in IIS 7

This explains the new service, WAS in IIS 7

Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) was introduced in the IIS 7 version and this is used to manage application pools and worker processes instead of the the World Wide Web (WWW) service. This lets the same configuration and process model for HTTP and non HTTP sites as well.

One more advantage of WAS is to run this without WWW if HTTP functionality is not required for the application.
