The INSTEAD OF UPDATE trigger will execute before the UPDATE query in the sql server. When it is executed, it will do those work which is defined in the triggering action and that may change or may not change the base table data... but because of this the UPDATE query will not be executed. And the trigger is executed only once in a statement, when there is a call to the statement. it won't be executed infinite.
