WCF/WF - SMTP Errors with Godaddy email server

This question has probably been asked in this forum a million times but I can't see were there was one with my configuration.

 

I've been on AOL since 1997 and am trying to wean myself away from it now that every email I send has an ad at the bottom of it. But it's a lot harder to get things switched over than I ever imagined.

 

I am trying to set up Windows Live Mail with a Godaddy email tied to my website and for the life of me I can't get it to work and for some reason the folks at Godaddy haven't been able to give me a fix.

 

I use all the setting they tell me to, but with no success.

 

I keep getting this error message:

I have tried sending email with the "My outgoing server requires authentication" checked and without. I have tried different Login IDs, I have even changed my email password at Godaddys, to no effect. Currently I'm using Thunderbird, but have to send, cancel and send again to send out an email, so wanted to see if Windows Live would work better.

 

After two weeks of messing around I'm about ready to go postal.

 

Any help from anyone, would be hugely appreciated.

You can get a free email account with Gmail and send mail programmatically very easily for free. They have complete instructions for any type of email client.

The answer is yes I do need to use Godaddy, I have a business and don't want to use a free email account but one that matches my website.

Within 3 days I quickly realized they weren't for me. Their hosting accounts have so many restrictions, and the customer service is so bad, I quit and left for another, better company.

If you have a business and having an identity email account is that important, I'd suggest considering an investment in your business that can pay good dividends - a different hosting company. Just my 2 cents.

I also had this issue, but I figured out what MY problem was... this also might be yours.

The issue with me was my outgoing port.

The GoDaddy Help Guides tell you to use 80. This wasn't working for me. But then I saw this note on one of the guides...

NOTE: If you have trouble sending email you can also try 25 or 3535 for your outgoing server (SMTP) port.

Port 25 also didn't work for me... BUT 3535 worked out great.

I was having major  trouble(for a few months and almost gave up!) with  sending mail from for my godaddy email address from outlook/ widows live.

first of all you have to download and install windows live outlook connector(which will pull you deeper into the Windows matrix). Kinda scary! they will / want to be entrusted with your contacts, calender your private info. I know those are options but still they now ask you if you want ad contacts to your network( which you don't have , but they encourage you to start one .

I figured out to use my internet provider's outgoing  smpt which was earthlink.

while using the godaddy  email outgoing setting which is pop.yourdomain.net

use your godaddy or other email and password.

no SPA (keep unchecked)

i use port 25

THEN FINALLY!!  I can send outgoing emails with my godaddy email address from outlook/windows live connector!!!!

this was a very hard lesson since switching to windows fucking live!

They make it almost impossible to figure out.
