IIS - There was an error while performing this operation

whille editing the site binding the following error is coming:
There was an error while performing this operation.
Details:
\\?/c:\windows\system32\inetserv\config\applicationhost.config linenumber xxx
Error:
can not logon locally to C:\Inetpub\wwsroot\wss\virtualdirectory\portnumber as user with virtual directory password
please help in identifying what is the problem.

\\?/c:\windows\system32\inetserv\config\applicationhost.config
In the above path, please verify the spelling of inetserv it is inetsrv .
Please verify and let me know. If my assumption is right , you should not get the error.
