best way is to make .exe file and install in other system, while creating exe add your dll file and database to that, here are the steps for how to create setup file

1.close ms vb6.0 ide
2.click start>-programs->microsoft visual studio 6.0->microsoft visual studio 6.0 tools->package and deployment wizard
3.click browse to locate ur project file(.vbp)
4.click package
5.click yes to start the recompilation process
6.in package type select standard setup package and click next
7.select the destination where u want to create the package folder for ur project.this folder will contain all the supported and main application files required to install ur apps in some other client machine.
8.click yes to create the folder if it doesn’t exist and click next
9.the next list that will come will display all necessary files to build the setup.click add to insert some other files from ur project to the said list.if u any access database file,click this button,locate ur db file and click open to add the file to the list.this list will also help u to remove any unnecessary files that u donot wish to install in the target machine with apps.u can also add help files(if any) for project from this option.but do not ever try to remove the .dll,.ocx,.lib or .exe files.click next
10.if u want ur setup becomes a standalone package select single cab otherwise if u want part installer then select multiple cab.if u select the 2nd option u have mention the size of the floppy disks.then the wizard will ask u insert the floppies one after another.i will recommend u not to use this option.click next
(if u see any shared files box or dependency information box just skip that)
11.insert a title for the installer and click next
12.in the next screen adjust the menu apperance the setup will create for u.this will become the startmenu shortcuts for ur apps.
13.click next->click next
14.in the script name box u do not require to enter anything but do not erase the default text.
15.click finish to build the installer.
16.click close->click close

Hello...

You have mention that you do try use innosetup tool. What problem did you encounter in using innosetup as a package? Can you post the text data in .prj file so that i can see what activex(ocx,dll) you have used and i will create you a inno script.

Weng

Here is the inno setup script. By the way, actually, some dll are not necessary to be included because they are already exists in the windows system. msado exists when the computer has msoffice/msaccess.

balaji replied to Noel Buenaventura on 30-Aug-10 01:16 AM
i run my setup in another pc having no vb installed.. i got this error:
(Microsoft)(ODBC Driver Manager) (Data Source Name not found and no default driver specified)
i think i missed some necessary odbc files in the installation setup.. i included all dll,ocx, accdb files.. what i have to do to run my setup successfully on other pc's..?
Noel Buenaventura replied to balaji on 30-Aug-10 05:08 AM
Hello...

You need also to include the odbc installer in the inno script. Example below i have mysql odbc driver. You need to add in the [Files] and [Run] portion.

[Files]
Source: "mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.12-win32.exe"; DestDir: "{app}"; Flags: ignoreversion

[Run]
Filename: "{app}\mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.12-win32.exe"; Parameters: "-c -s"

Wil that odbc driver which u mentioned wil install in the client sys having no odbc and provides database connectivity to my setup prog..?
balaji replied to balaji on 30-Aug-10 08:25 AM
The connection string of adodc for my applic wil be something like this:
ConnectionString = "PROVIDER=MSDASQL;dsn=<dsn name>;uid=;pwd=;"

Wil that odbc driver which u specified for me suits to create the setup..?

yes....it will install to the client computer without odbc. It will also automatically prompt if there is already existing odbc installed especially the existing is higher version.
Noel Buenaventura replied to balaji on 31-Aug-10 08:33 PM
By the way, the odbc inno script that i have sample is mysql odbc. You need to include this file in the inno script...http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=000364db-5e8b-44a8-b9be-ca44d18b059b&displaylang=en
Noel Buenaventura replied to balaji on 31-Aug-10 08:34 PM
MSDASQL requires this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=000364db-5e8b-44a8-b9be-ca44d18b059b&displaylang=en
balaji replied to Noel Buenaventura on 01-Sep-10 12:00 AM
actually i included mysql driver which u specified and create a setup and run on client computer.. when i go to control panel and saw, odbc was not installed.. also when i run my application, it shows the same error:
(Microsoft)(ODBC Driver Manager) (Data Source Name not found and no default driver specified)

whether i have to include MSDASQL file along with mysql odbc driver in the inno script..? or only that MSDASQL file..?
balaji replied to Noel Buenaventura on 01-Sep-10 08:38 AM
Whether the dsn for the access database file wil automatically create after running that MSDASQL file in the installation process..?
Noel Buenaventura replied to balaji on 01-Sep-10 11:33 AM
What is really your database? MSAccess or MySQL or any? If you are using MSDASQL, then you don't have to install MySQL Driver. And also just a suggestion...prevent using dsn. Try using different connectionstring...check this out...http://www.connectionstrings.com/
balaji replied to Noel Buenaventura on 25-Sep-10 03:15 AM
Sorry for the late rply.. but im using dsn in my whole proj.. my database s access 2007.. can i know y u r sayin to prevent using dsn...?
