Outlook - Folder is full error message Outlook 2010 -deleted items

I am running MS Outlook 2010 in XP. We had rolling power outages yesterday. Following them, I am getting a "folder is full" error message whenever I try to empty the deleted items folder.
I have tried the following: Repairing MS office (this worked earlier when I had inbox subfolders that I could not move or rename); but it did not solve this problem. I also tried compacting both the Outlook.pst folder (about 400MB) and the Archive folder (613 MB), and I still can not empty the trash. I can however, select and delete all the items in the trash manually.
