Windows 7 - Flickering Programs - Asked By John May on 09-Mar-11 10:23 PM

I have just started to have some problems with some programs flickering, CS4, My Publisher, Lightroom. Doesn't seem to do it all the time but at times it's bad, doesn't seem to do it on open web pages. I've gone through and updated my drivers for my video card GeForce 9800 GTX and my two monitors Dell ST2410 which didn't seem to do anything. Changed my wireless mouse with another as I've read that it could be a problem- no help. Is there anything else I can try. This computer was just built last spring and worked fine up until last week. The temp. inside seem to be fine CPU 22 C and the system 26 C.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit i5 2.67 GHz
Asus P7P55D pro motherboard
GeForce 9800 GTX+
Dual Dell ST2410 monitors
8Gig ram

Thanks
John

HI John,

Your screen is not flickering on and off correct?
Things i would do to narrow it down.

Switch from two monitors to one monitor temporarily.  See if the issue persists.  If it doesn't, you know it's an issue with the videocard dual screening.
Update the Firmware on your particular model of GTX card.

Here is a thread of people having the same issue with ST2410's as well.

Also, please discribe what you mean by "flickering" be percise, there are many things i can think of when you say that.

No the monitor stays on just the program flickers. It's kind of a flashing really fast. I have uninstalled anything that was added in the last two weeks, no help. I unpluged one of the monitors, problem still there. When the program flickers it says at the top (not responding) and sometimes it flickers so that you can see the background picture. It seems to do it when I'm trying to do something with the mouse, move a picture(My Publisher) or do somekind of action in cs4. I have tried three different mouses, all micrsoft. Doesn't seem to be a monitor problem because I've hooked up one of them to my laptop and it works fine.

It seems like cs4 has some compaitabilit issues with certain cards, is your a 512 or or 1gb?  1gb is not supported oddly..or tested..

here is a great link on the subject

Pay special attention to

9. Disable Windows Aero (Windows 7 and Vista).
Aero is a hardware-based graphical user interface in Windows 7 and Vista. It is intended to offer more advanced features, including transparency and animations, than in the standard interface. See Disable Windows Aero (Windows 7 and Vista) (kb404886).

The GeForce 9800 GTX+ is 512MB DDR3 and I'm not using any of the Aero Themes, I've got one of my own pictures for a background. Could an issue with photoshop cause the flickering with other programs other then adobe programs. Also watching movies or recorded tv programs seems to be fine, even simple games work on(not a gamer so don't have any hard driving stuff to try.

TBH it could be anything causeing the issue.  It could even be your videocard having a problem.  Photoshop is the most graphic intensive thing you do it sounds like.   Do you have any errors in your error log to show something is malfunctioning?  Right click on my computer, click manage, expand the event log, lets look for red x's (errors) that have to do with the video card or photoshop.   Report anything you find.

When I go to Computer Management, Event Views, System there seems to be a lot of Errors with the Source being NetBT but I don't see anything for the vidieo card or photoshop.
