Outlook - Can't send emails - Asked By Martine on 07-Apr-11 02:25 AM

Hi - I use Live Mail, which up to now has worked fine.  Now I can receive emails but not send them.  My ISP is Virgin, if that is of any help.  This is the message I get when I try to send emails:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Subject 'Re: Space Education CPD Day, free for teachers to attend'

Server: 'smtp.virgin.net'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F

Protocol: SMTP

Port: 25

Secure(SSL): No

I am not a computer literate person, so if anyone can help me out there, can you please keep it simple to follow?

Thanking everyone in advance.

Martine

It could be due to what the error message actually is indicating, no activity.

Can you browse the internet at the same point (maybe not simulataneously) this error happens?

Are you using Wireless or Ethernet Cable?

Do you require to dial-up an ADSL connection to connect to the broadband?

Thank you for replying.  Yes, I am connected to the Internet via Broadband.  When I get the error message I have just received emails usually.

This computer is via cable, but the other computers in the house are wireless.

Hi Martine,

It could be a glitch with your ISP on the smtp relay for send packets, have you spoke to them (Virgin)?

Hi - fixed it myself!  Just played around with the numbers.  465 instead of 25 worked!  Emails now going fine.

Thanks for trying.

Excellent. 465 is used for outgoing SMTP with Virgin.net
