Windows 7 - can't import wab into WLM - Asked By Ann on 18-May-11 08:03 PM

I have tried everything the web has suggested... my problems are..

1. Many sites tell me to use WLM Go>Import>windows address book  BUT under the File menu, there is only the command 'import messages' and it has nothing about any kind of address book.  And there is no Go command anywhere.
2. If I go to File>Options>Email Accounts,  there is an Active Directory listed under Contacts Directory, BUT this will only import Internet Account Files (.iaf).
3. I found a livemailtutorial which said to hit Shift-Ctlr-C to open WLM Contacts, then click on the Open Menu button > import>windows address book.  Yes, Shift-Ctlr-C opens a contact window BUT There is NO menu bar.  There is NO open menu button.  The only thing on the header bar is maximize, minimize, close, etc.

Help.  How do I get my wab into WLM?

There is an alternative:  www.oehelp.com/OEnWin7.aspx

If File | Import | Address book doesn't work, then try double clicking on the wab file and then export it as a CSV file and then try importing that CSV file into WLM.

But there is no File > Import,  only File>Import Messages.  So whether it is wab or csv makes no difference.  It only has a command to import messages (not address filse whatever format they are).

I tried double clicking on the wab but it gave me options only to import.  I will try exporting it as csv from my old Windows XP machine tomorrow and put the csv on my new computer.  Should magic happen and suddenly WLM gives me an 'Import' command, I'll let you know. Sure hope so.

I keep wondering if there is something wrong with my installation of WLM, though it was just installed.

I have it at last.  Just so others might find this answer.. here is how you do it.

- In WLM, click on the left hand side down at the bottom on the icon for Contacts
- Home>Import>windows address book.

Things that won't work..
- In WLM, Shift-Cntl-C only opens a new contact form.  The form has no menus so no way to import anything.
- In WLM, none of the menus have import>windows address book.  WLM only has File>import messages.
