Microsoft Word - Getting Registry Key Error 1406 how to fix this problem ?

Hello, I am getting error 1406 while installing Microsoft office 2007 in my computer. When I try to install, I get this error message. After that, installation automatically cancels out. I need to do my assignments. Someone plz suggest How can I get rid of it.

I had to run Method 1 under Resolution in order to get a clean Office 2010 install onto my Win 7 laptop.

3 similar solutions below to try:

1. Start > Run, type "regedit" (without quotes) in the Open box, and then click OK. 
2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the subkey that is listed by the error message.
3. On the Edit menu, click Permissions.
4. Under Group or user names, click Everyone.
Note You must add the Everyone group if it is not available. To do this, follow these steps: 
a. In the Permission for Office dialog box, click Add.
b. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click Advanced. 
c. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click Find Now.
d. Under Name (RDN), click Everyone, and then click OK.
e. In the Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog box, click OK. 
5. Under Permissions for Everyone, click to select the Full Control check box. 
6. Click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor. 
8. Run the Setup program for your Office program.

4. Right click the key and select "Permissions." 
5. In the Group or User names field, select the user installing the program. Be sure the user has administrative rights.

7. Click OK and attempt the operation again.

2. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT 
3. Click Permissions 
4. Click on the Add button then add Administrators and click OK. 
5. In the resulting "Permissions for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" window, check the "Allow" box for full control and read. 
6. Click the Add button again and add SYSTEM and again check the Allow box for full control and read. 
7. Click Ok, exit regedit. 
8. Rerun setup

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Windows by using an Administrator account.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type dcomcnfg, and then press ENTER.
  4. In the Distributed COM Configuration Properties dialog box, click the Default Properties tab.
  5. Click to select the Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box.
  6. Under Default Authentication Level, click Connect.
  7. Under Default Impersonation Level, click Identify.
  8. Click the Default Security tab, and then click Edit Default under Default Access Permissions.
  9. In the Registry Value Permissions dialog box, do one of the following:
    • If the Name box includes the SYSTEM account, click OK.
    • If the Name box does not include the SYSTEM account, click Add. In the Add Users and Groups dialog box, click SYSTEM under Names, and then click Add. Click OK two times.
  10. Under Default Launch Permissions, click Edit Default.
  11. In the Registry Value Permissions dialog box, the Name box must contain the following three accounts: Administrators, INTERACTIVE, and SYSTEM. If any are missing, click Add, click the missing account in the Names box (you can select more than one account by holding down the CTRL key and then clicking each account name), click Add, and then click OK two times.
  12. Under Default Configuration Permissions, click Edit Default.
  13. In the Registry Key Permissions dialog box, the Name box must contain the following six accounts: Administrators, Power Users, Users, Creator Owner, Everyone, and SYSTEM. If any are missing, click Add, click the missing account in the Names box (you can select more than one account by holding down the CTRL key and then clicking each account name), click Add, and then click OK two times.
  14. Click the Applications tab, click {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}, and then click Properties.
  15. Click the General tab, and then click Default in the Authentication Level box.
  16. Click the Security tab, and then click Use default access permissions, Use default launch permissions, and Use default configuration permissions.
  17. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  18. Restart the computer.
