Asked By Raja yashwanth Reddy Gunda on 21-Jun-11 02:07 PM
Hi,

I am trying to execute my Windows Forms Application developed using VS.Net 2003 in WIN7 machine, but I am getting an error message as "JIT (Just In Time) Debugging Error". What would be the reason for this?

Thanks
Yash

Hi

How to Fix the Error

Delete the following registry keys by:

  1. Clicking Start->Run and then typing regedit in the dialogue box and then clicking on OK as shown below.
  2. On 32-bit systems, delete the following two registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger

On 64-bit systems, delete the following registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger

That should fix the problem.

What if I just want to Disable the JIT Debugger?

Of course, there are times when you want to use the JIT debugger. So being able to enable or disable the JIT debugger may be a better solution. Follow these steps to turn off JIT debugging

  1. In Internet Explorer, select Tools -> Options
  2. On the Internet Options dialog, go to the Advanced tab
  3. Select Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)
  4. Select Disable Script Debugging (Other) as shown below
  5. Reboot the computer

You should not longer receive Just In Time Debugging Errors.

Did you have a version of Visual Studio installed on the machine e.g. an express edition perhaps at some point?

If you have Visual Studio installed but not using it, you may uninstall it from Programs and features .

To avoid getting these messages you can disable Just-in-Time debugging. Follow the instructions in the following link. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/5hs4b7a6.aspx

If that does little help, you could also change values in the registry.

1. Open the Start Menu.

2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter.

3. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

4. In regedit, go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script\Settings\JITDebug

5. The REG_DWORD type value must be set to "0" to disable debug.

6. Close regedit.

7. Logoff and logon, or restart the computer to apply the changes
