If you want to use ASP, Microsoft® ASP.NET, or PHP, install the modules needed to host these pages; this can be done during the installation of IIS or after the installation is complete.

First, go to Control Panel, and then click on Programs. You’ll see a link for “Turn Windows features on or off”

If you expand the Internet Information Services tree node, you can see that there are a lot of options beneath it. You will probably want to explore these options, because even if you click on IIS, some of the necessary options for doing development aren’t checked.

Once you’ve gone ahead and checked the items you want, and clicked OK, you’ll see this dialog for a while….

Now when you navigate in your browser to localhost, you’ll see the new default page… slick!

By default, IIS 7.5 is not installed on Windows 7. You can install IIS by clicking Windows Features in Advanced Options under Programs in Control Panel.

You can also use the Web Platform Installer (Web PI) to easily install IIS, and applications that run on IIS. The Web PI is a free, lightweight tool that lets you install IIS and related technologies such as ASP.NET, SQL Server Express, Visual Web Developer, other popular Web applications, and more. Because the Web PI installs the latest versions of available Web Platform offerings, with just a few simple clicks you can download and install any new tools or updates.

Microsoft IIS or Internet Information Services, also known as Internet Information Server, is a set of Internet based services for servers designed by Microsoft to be used with Microsoft operating system.

Let’s quickly install this service with the help of given steps:

STEP 1. Insert the Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Professional DVD into your DVD-Rom Drive.
STEP 2. Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Programs.
STEP 3. From the dialog box that appears, click on Turn Windows features on or off.
STEP 4. This opens another dialog box that displays a list of many Windows related services.
STEP 5. Check the box for ‘Internet Information Services (IIS)‘ leaving all the default installation settings intact. If you would like to install additional services, then expand each option and select them.

STEP 6. Once IIS is installed on your system you can view your home page in a web browser by typing ‘http://localhost’ you can type computer name instead of local host into the address bar of your web browser.

Hope this will help you.

Hi Balaji,

You can install IIS on Windows 7 using the Command Line

On Windows Vista, to install IIS 7.0 from the command line, you can use a tool called the Windows Package Manager (Pkgmgr.exe). For example, the command line for installing IIS 7. 0 on Windows Vista might look something like the following depending on how many IIS features you want to install:

start /w pkgmgr /iu:IIS-WebServerRole;IIS-WebServer;IIS-CommonHttpFeatures;IIS-StaticContent;IIS-DefaultDocument;IIS-DirectoryBrowsing;IIS-HttpErrors;IIS-HttpRedirect;

This has changed in Windows 7. In Windows 7, the Package Manager is deprecated and replaced with the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) tool. To install IIS 7.5 on Windows 7, you use DISM.exe to target the running operating system (using the /Online switch) and use the /Enable-Feature option to enable individual IIS features. Below is the command line for installing all of IIS 7.5 features on Windows 7.
NOTE:
I have put each feature on a separate line to make it easier to read. In practice, the entire command line needs to be on a single line.
