Asked By IFI IFI on 01-Oct-11 06:07 AM
Hi All,

Is it possible to uninstall SharePoint Server 2010 SP1? I hope it can't be done.
Is there any way beyond the rule?

HI,

Simple answer is you can't very easily.  As the Service Pack is installed it will make changes to not only your farms servers but also your databases.  Rolling back these changes are going to mean rebuild your servers and re-attaching the databases you backed up prior to the installation of the Service Pack.

To uninstall SharePoint Server 2010
  1. Verify that you are a member of the Farm Administrators group or a member of the Administrators group on the local computer.

  2. On the computer that runs SharePoint Server 2010, log on as a local or domain administrator.

  3. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

  4. In the Programs area, click Uninstall a program.

  5. In the Uninstall or change a program dialog box, click Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

  6. Click Change.

  7. On the Change your installation of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 page, click Remove, and then click Continue. A confirmation message appears.

  8. Click Yes to remove SharePoint Server 2010. A warning message appears.

  9. Click OK to continue. A confirmation message appears.

  10. Click OK.

SharePoint Service packs cannot be uninstalled.

You would have to uninstall the whole product and then install from scratch - but be aware that databases upgraded to SP1 cannot be connected to a RTM server. So you would have to restore the databases to a pre-SP1 state as well.
