IIS - 2 FTP Sites on server - Asked By Jem Savery on 17-Oct-11 01:15 PM

Hi Friends,

I have a windows server 2008 for a client. There is one FTP site having port no.21 in the IIS on server.

Now I need to create another FTP site for a separate folder on server. But first time it gave me an error regarding Port number, so I changed the port number from 21 to 23 (I tried several others like 1024, 1023, 22 etc), but they all said
"Connection timeout" error.

the FTP is not connecting.

Can anyone help me regarding this?

Thanks in advance.
Jem.

To create multiple FTP sites
  1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the FTP Sites folder, point to New, and click FTP Site.

  2. Click Next.

  3. In the Description box, type a description of your FTP site, and then click Next.

  4. Under Enter the IP address to use this FTP site, type a new IP address, and leave the TCP port setting at 21.

  5. Complete the rest of the FTP Site Creation Wizard.

To create multiple FTP sites using multiple ports
  1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the FTP Sites folder, point to New, and click FTP Site.

  2. Click Next.

  3. In the Description box, type a description of your FTP site, and then click Next.

  4. Under Enter the IP address to use for this FTP site, type your Web server's IP address.

  5. Under Type the TCP port for this FTP site, change the TCP port from the default setting of 21 to an unallocated port number. If you are uncertain which port numbers are already allocated, choose a high number, for example a number between 5000 and 5999.

  6. Complete the rest of the FTP Site Creation Wizard.

With reference from MSDN

To configure an FTP folder and virtual root

  1. Create a new folder to hold files. You can name the folder anything you like. For example, name the new folder ExampleFtpFiles, so that the path of the folder is C:\inetpub\ftproot\ExampleFtpFiles.

  2. Open the node for your computer, and then open the FTP Sites node.

  3. Right-click the Default FTP Site node, click New, and then click Virtual Directory.

  4. In the Virtual Directory Creation Wizard, specify an alias (or name) that users can use to get to the FTP folder that you created in step 1. The name can be anything you like. It is often least confusing to use the directory name as the alias name, so that the virtual directory might be called ExampleFtpFiles.

  5. For the path, type or browse to the path of the directory from step 1, for example Inetpub\ftproot\ExampleFtpFiles.

  6. For Access Permissions, specify Read, and then click Next to finish with the wizard.

  7. In Windows, from the Administrative Tools menu, selectInternet Information Services.

    Regards

Multiple FTP sutes requires multiple IP addresses or multiple ports.

Ports are not ideal in your situation, since they must be appended to the IP address.

Here's what is common:

Configure a user account for each web domain.

Configure a home directory for each user account with the same name as
the user account.

In DNS, point ftp.{Domain_Name} to the same IP your FTP server is on.

When the user logs in, they are dropped into the home directory
matched to their login name. A virtual folder pointing to the web
site root lets them FTP files there.
