Thanks, Don, for answering. On my desktop PC I have Word 2007, also installed without the other stuff in Office. I long ago turned off automatic updates and yet I still get update offers for Excel, Powerpoint etc. When a list of newly available updates appears, I uncheck Excel, PP and so on, yet shortly thereafter there they are in "Update History." Have you ever looked at "Update History" and then "Installed updates," which offers uninstalling? I uninstall those I didn't want and get them again anyway. Stubbornness, thy name is Microsoft. Silverlight is along the same lines-- I long ago uninstalled it, yet updates still pop up. I removed it from the Registry, brave girl that I am, yet the updates still come; I uncheck it, and it doesn't install, but it's always there offered as an "important update." Next I'll uninstall Word, which is listed in Control Panel, Programs and Features, and start over. I don't know how large Word is, but the update that came for Office the other day was 281 MB.
