IIS - Continuous password prompt in FrontPage 2002; cannot publish

Asked By Anthony Phillips on 12-Mar-12 07:58 AM
I am  running Windows XP Professional, FrontPage 2002. I can ping the website, but cannot view the site. My Web hosting supplier has set up a new account with username and password but I cannot publish. I have the same issue with another website. I have been able to publish both for the last year or so, but since January I have had this problem. I have the same symptoms with my laptop as well as my desktop.

When you try to author remotely or publish remotely to a FrontPage extended Web site, you are continually prompted for your user name and password.

Use the following methods to troubleshoot this problem.

NOTE: These steps do not work on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 2000.

If You Connect to the Internet via a Modem

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. Double-click Dial-up Networking.
  3. Right-click the shortcut to your Internet connection, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.
  4. In Windows 95/98, click the Server Types tab, and then click to select the Log on to Network check box. In Windows Me, click the Security tab and then click to select the Log on to Network check box.
  5. Click OK.

Verify That the Client for Microsoft Networks Is Installed

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Network icon.
  3. Verify that Client for Microsoft Networks is listed on the Configuration tab.
If it is not listed, follow these steps.

NOTE: You may need your Microsoft Windows CD-ROM for these steps.
    1. Click Add, select Client, and then click Add.
    2. In the list of manufacturers, click Microsoft.
    3. In the Network Clients window, click Client for Microsoft Networks.
    4. Click OK, and then wait for the Configuration window to reappear. Click OK again.
    5. Restart your computer if prompted to do so.
