Windows 7 - My DVD Maker can not fully burn data and music disks

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion dv6447om entertainment notebool PC which I am running Windows 7 on. I can not use my DVD\CD Burner. When I open up Windows DVD Maker it will start the burn, get to 99% then it ejects the disk drive and says that it could not burn the data to a disk. When i was tooling around in my device manager I noticed under Computer Management my dvd/cd-rom drives it had Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-85OS. After a windows update of service pak1 it disappeared. Now it only says CD-Rom Drive under the dvd/cd-rom drives in Computer Management. Yet in System Information I have this under my CD-ROM:

So as you can see it is still listed, the driver is there. I have troubleshooted, mr fix it from microsoft, hp updates and troubleshooting, windows updates, windows help and support, to downloads like Driver Manager etc. Please can anyone help me get my dvd/cd burner back and running correctly??? Thanks!

How old is this?

There's a software issue and since you have 90 day software support or the 1 year hardware support, if you have the Product Registration process completed, you should probably use it.

i bought the computer in 2007. so i dont have a warranty. is there any other way of fixing the problem??

how do i fix the software problem with no warranty? I am so stuck!

How about re installing the operating system? Or restoring a backup from the restore CD?

I have no restore CD. and when my friend put windows 7 on my laptop he didnt create a restore point!! ugh! Any other suggestions? Any websites i can go to and just download whatever i need? I have been doing this for two weeks, lol i am getting beat down! hehe

Ok, before you reload your OS or do anything crazy what software are you using to burn disks.
there are plenty of free dvd burning software avail on the net.

Try looking for one called DVD flick and install the software adn retry to burn the disk you drive is working if it is getting to 99% and your OS is working you just may need a burning program.
