Microsoft Word - Unable to print envelopes - Asked By Kellene Hutchinson on 10-Apr-12 08:58 PM

I'm trying to print mail merge envelopes from WORD7 to a Brother MFC7840W.  The envelope feeds through but there is not printing on it.  All other types of documents print fine.  I've tested using a full sheet of paper and a envelope in different position all come through blank.  Any advise?

Try these:

a) There could be an update to the printer driver that you use. You may want to check the manufacturer's site. Word can only facilitate printing commands to the active printers selected. Hence, you may need to update to the latest version of your drivers, so that custom sizes are printable.

b) Try to print on a standard size such as A4. That will let you know if the envelope settings are messed up.

c) Go to control panel. Open faxes & printers. Right-click and choose Preferences. You will find an option that would read something like "print all text as black" or something similar. Turn that on. Now give a shot. This would work if your color's on the cartridge are low.

d) If you click the "Envelopes" in the Ribbon - Mailings tab, do you see a good preview?

You will have to do some trial and error on the sizes, as they tend to cause "data" out of range for the printer to print.

Open the manual feed tray door (that is the door on the front that has the "Brother" logo on it. Narrow the feed tray guides to filt your envelope. Envelopes feed it with flap side up and to the left

Refer to Doug’s post in the link below.

Note: Though the link contains the steps for Word 2007, you can follow the same steps for Word 2010 as well.

Have you tried to right-click your printer and go to properties then select LANDSCAPE?

Kellene,

Good Morning if you are using a blank sheet of paper and it is not printing then I am guessing it is not the printers fault it is more than likely a setting in word, please check to see what color you are printing in for the envelopes & Labels.

I looked up the Brother MFC7840W and it is not a color printer so just make sure your font type for your envelopes is Black and not some light grey or an off color that your printer with apply.
