Microsoft Access - Reviving old database with new changed backend fields
Asked By Shoro on 29-Jun-12 01:00 PM
I have a database that I need to revive - it has got all the forms and everything done so I don't want to do the whole work which can take a lot of time - therefore I am trying to use the already existing database with forms. The only problem is that one main backend table has changed especially field names. I was wondering if I can leave the fields as is and just update the data from new source table and sebequently make changes to the labels in the form to represent the new field names?
Any suggestions.
Thanks

You could do that, but it would be a bit confusing for developers later on. I would recommend using a utility to change your forms to match the data. FMS has some good tools that can change control names on forms and the associated code in modules.
A bit more work now will save a lot of frustration later on.

Thanks Wally Eye. No one would want to leverage on this tool. It's just for department use - unfortunately, I am not an advance Access user or have no programming knowledge. If I am too change the data in the field how could that be done - any easy way?
Thanks,

You would have to edit each form and change the data source for each control to point to the new field names, then change the labels as appropriate. You would need to do the same for queries and reports, it could be quite an involved process.
