Microsoft Word - quotation marks automatically insert French accents in following text. How to stop this

When I type a single or double quotation mark, Word automatically inserts FRrench accents over relevant letters - viz.   É   when I don't order or want them.   How can I stop this?

Looks like your keyboard layout is in French, to change it back, you can follow any of the link below.

Alternatively, you can use the following shortcuts to change languages displayed in the Language bar in the "system tray." 

Switch between languages or keyboard layouts
