Microsoft Excel - How to calculate seconds in excel

Dear All,

I am trying to find the sum of seconds in excel, I have 1000 steps of seconds to add.

I assigned SUM of formula and range
of values in a given cell

Settings I have Done:

Format Cells ----> Custom ----> mm:ss

Formula I have assigned:

L 1007=SECOND(L3:L1005)

but I am  getting wrong result(#VALUE!). Somebody please help/correct me

using =seconds will return only the remainder of second over 60  as excel adds for you and converts to minutes and then again hours.  if you have a list of 30 secs and have 5 of them the =seconds will return 30  and not 150 seconds  you can use minutes to show 2 minutes and if you want to divide by 60 you can convert back  but if you have 1000 steps I am sure you are going to have several hours if not days and minues to convert back to seconds if that is what you are trying to do. perhaps you can show us some more of your example

Your profile looks good and adds correctly if what you are showing is hunderths of a second in your colum simply do a =sum(l4:l1005) and you should get 37.422 or 37 seconds and 422 one thousands  there is nothing more to do unless you want to round to the nearest 10th of a second. 

change the formatting on the cell you are adding in back to general.
