C# .NET - value type memory storage?

Asked By Krishna Madhu on 05-Apr-13 08:28 AM
I have a class  with 2 member variables int and string.

class test
{
 int x=10;
stiring name="samuel";

}

 string is a ref type and it goes to heap. int is a value type where is it stored?

stack

its heap not stack. a value type if its a member variable will go to heap and if the same value type declared in  as a local variable will go to stack. checked in MSDN

Correct.  I didn't pay enough attention to see that these were not local variables inside a method.  They are class level and would go on the heap.

Good catch.

stack and heap C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:28 PM i am very confused on stack and heap as the views conveyed by the individual are different. can some one clearly tell where the local variables go (stack or heap) and where the global goes(stack or heap) all global variables are value types correct or wrong? Is
Heap and Stack C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:49 PM What is the difference between heap memory and stack memory programitically when the application make use of heap memory and stack memory to put in simple terms heap memory is used for allocation of memory for object types (where actual object is created )and only the heap part of the memory is gargabe collectible (eligible for automatic
Stack and Heap C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:46 PM Hi all Greeting, Can you please enlight me with the difference between stack and Heap. Please be technically precise. Please to not specify the links. . Thanks and Regards, Pallav The Stack is more or less responsible for keeping track of what executing in our code (or what's been "called"). The Heap is more or less responsible for keeping track of our most of it - we'll get to that later.). The Stack is self-maintaining, meaning that it basically takes care of box is no longer used, it's thrown out. The Heap, on the other hand, has to worry about Garbage collection

stack and heap C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:28 PM public void y); { int b = 0; boolean B = false; } now in the stack a memory is created for function 1 and also the ref instead of by val. Now my question is a stack for the function 2 is created and the variables of b are there in the same allocated memory of the stack. and the value that i am passing as a Byref will it be in the same allocated memory of the stack or will it be on the heap? as all the heap values will be stored on the heap? Since b and
regarding stack and heap C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:28 PM class myclass it is primitive data type it will be stored in stack and i am passing the same variable to a method a frame will be created for the value in the stack again ? or not then how the value in the stack is related to the value of the method that is ref type will the same value be created in the heap or not? could you please let me know where the it is primitive data type it will be stored in stack and i am passing the same variable to a method a frame will be created for the value in the stack again ? or not then how the value in the stack
Increase Stack Size C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:25 PM Can some1 please help me increase stack size, i have read some articles, but i didnt understand where do i place the code You cannot increase the stack size. Why do you want to do this? I think StackOverFlow Exception and you want to prevent that Increasing the stack size for a stack overflow is like adding more memory to an out of you should determine why your app is running out of stack space. If it is in a recursive loop then you ll eventually run out of space irrelevant of how much stack space you allocate. If you are trying to pass too much data on the stack then you need to use the heap instead. Hope you
stack trace C# .NET 10-Aug-13 06:28 PM what is stack trace? hi, This example shows how to get call stack in .NET. Call stack is represented by http: / / msdn2.microsoft.com / en-us / library is its caller and so on. Following example writes call stack method names . It creates an instance of StackTrace (call stack), gets all frames (method calls) and writes the method names public static void Main() { StackTrace stackTrace = new StackTrace (); / / get call stack StackFrame [] stackFrames = stackTrace.GetFrames (); / / get method calls (frames) / / write call stack method names foreach ( StackFrame stackFrame in stackFrames) { Console .WriteLine( stackFrame
Queue and Stack Classes in C# C# .NET The Queue and Stack classes (in the System.Collections namespace) store objects that can in a single step. Queue uses a FIFO sequence, while Stack uses a LIFO sequence. The Queue class uses the Enqueue and Dequeue methods to add and remove objects, while the Stack class uses Push and Pop. The following code demonstrates the produces the following output: Queue demonstration: Hello world just testing / / Stack Stack s = new Stack (); s. Push ( "Hello" ); s. Push ( "world" ); s. Push ( "just testing" ); Console . WriteLine ( " Stack demonstration:" ); for ( int i = 1; i < = 3; i++) Console . WriteLine
7 Here is one way to do it: Create a Stack object of characters. And loop through the original text. In the string. If it is, push that character to the stack, otherwise output the character. When you reach a point where the stack contains a set of consecutive characters but the next character in the string is not consecutive, pop the stack characters into a string as a range representation and continue get the result: public string CompressString(string input) { string output = ""; Stack<char> stack = new Stack<char> (); for (int i = 0; i < input.Length; i++) { if input.Length - 1)) { if (input[i + 1] = = input[i] + 1) stack.Push(input[i]); else { output + = GetPendingOutput(stack, input[i]); stack
