Microsoft Excel - Year, Date and Quarter - Asked By Dan on 06-Nov-13 08:18 PM

Column A has the year, Column B has dates and Column C has the Quarter (ex 1, 2, 3 & 4).  Column D needs to reflect the correct quarter.  Here is my problem.  The first quarter needs to start on Oct 1 and end on Dec 31.  So, the first quarter of 2014 will still actually be Oct 1 - Dec 31 2013.

Hello Dan
Try this
=MOD(ROUNDUP(MONTH(A1)/3,0),4)+1
I couldn't quite understand your nomenclature but the formula needs the month number (1 to 12) to be where the MONTH(A1) part is.

So, here is what I have that works, but how do I get it to do nothing in in D2 if there is nothing in C2?

=IF(C2=1,A2+1,A2)

Tx,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I assume that you mean that C2 is empty but a zero in the first inequality would work as well.
=IF(C2<>"",IF(C2=1,A2+1,A2),"")

Thank you, that worked.
