Microsoft Excel - Calculating Cost by Company - Asked By Kathy Hughes on 20-Mar-14 08:55 AM

If column A contains company names and column B contains $ amounts, how do I summarize the total cost (in column E)for each company in column A.

Hi Kathy,

=SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$13=D2)*$B$2:$B$13)

Put this in E2 and copy down.

Just as a matter of interest, your problem is also very easily handled in a Pivot Table which means that Excel does all the work for you.  Also means that as you add data all is taken care of without having to use dynamic ranges.
