SQL Server - Stored procedure deadlock

Hi,
   I have a query regarding the stored procedure transaction in Sql Server 2000.
  If I am using the transaction in the stored procedure and from this stored procedure I am again calling another stored procedure , with transaction . If this inner stored procedure find some error and fails at some point . How does the transaction will take place , what exactly will happen in this case.

The transaction gets rolled back

but everything above it gets left alone and committed.
