Unable to start debugging on the web server. The web server is not configured correctly

This explains the reasons and solution for the exception, “Unable to start debugging on the web server. The web server is not configured correctly” you receive while debugging ASP.NET web application in Microsoft Visual Studio.
This could be because of the following reasons (check the steps beneath each reason
to solve this exception):
1) Correct ASP.NET version might not have been set for the ASP.NET Web Application
in the virtual directory in IIS.
Steps to solve:
(i) Open IIS by typing inetmgr from run command of windows.
(ii) Right click on the ASP.NET Web Application directory and select Properties from
the context menu.
(iii) Select the ASP.NET Tab from the displayed tabs
(iv) Select the correct ASP.NET version from the dropdown.
2) The ASP.NET Web Application directory may not be registered as a Web Application.
Steps to solve:
(i) Open IIS by typing inetmgr from run command of windows.
(ii) Right click on the ASP.NET Web Application directory and select Properties from
the context menu.
(iii) Select Directory tab from the displayed tabs.
(iv) In the Directory tab, under Application Settings, you can find Application Name
and Create button.
(v) Click on the Create button.
